Perking Up a Shabby Home

While refurbishing your home is a very costly project, a superficial update can be both cheap and effective. If you're working on a very tight budget, you might want to reconsider that extensive renovation in favour of something a little less extreme.

A home 'face lift' should always start with paint work. A new coat in a fresh, exciting palette can dramatically improve an interior that's looking a little the worse for wear. Choose your colour scheme carefully; it should be echoed throughout your home.

Instead of buying new furniture at great expense, salvage the solid pieces that you already own and recover these in a fabric that works well with your new paint job. Evaluate your curtains as well; do they need replacement? On the subject of casements, smart shutters or Designer interior window louvers can really breathe new life into yours and, what's more, can be sourced for a relatively low price.

The finer details of your home should not be neglected. Things like door handles and the knobs on kitchen cabinets can really bring down an otherwise great looking interior.

In short, it is not difficult to give your home a great new look. A coat of paint, some simple upholstery work and a degree of attention to detail will ensure that your house looks fabulous for a relatively small amount.
